Welcome to my Gallery
"I endeavour to imbibe my art with the very essence
of nature and, as such, I hope my work will serve to fascinate
and invite thought and contemplation."
As a child I was always creative and enjoyed painting and drawing. I grew up in South London and played in the street like many children did — my world was one of concrete, hopscotch, knock down ginger and somewhat less annoying for my neighbours — imaginary games of shops under a table or on the steps. A piece of nearby waste ground (a scar from the war) had bushes and soft long grass — this was the countryside to me, a magical place to allow my imagination to soar.
I discovered an arching bush that formed a dome over my head; I crept inside, sprinkled the earth under my leafy canopy with glitter and dreamed this was a fairy glade. As the sunlight slid like shafts of gold through the leaves the glitter sparkled and I studied the pathways of ants and the patterns of moss and lichen that adorned the branches.
I learned to look and observe and not just to ‘see’ and, in doing so, I fell in love with nature.
Encouraged by fellow artists and several dear friends, I began showing my work.
We moved to Suffolk in October 2011 following a close family loss. I feel fortunate to be living in another area of outstanding natural beauty on the Shotley Peninsular.
The joy of exploring meandering riverside walks or watching the big blowsy skies framing our secret beaches that remind me of desert island hideaways.
And the sheer unadulterated pleasures of delicately picking your way through heavily perfumed bluebell woods thickly carpeted in shades of purple to pink and theatrically illuminated by shafts of sunlight, are moments that are truly breathtaking.
I endeavour to imbibe my art with the very essence of nature and as such I hope my work will serve to fascinate and invite thought and contemplation.
My studio is tiny and perfectly formed and is nestled inside our lovely 15th century home in Stutton.

My adult career took me into the world of diamonds. Again, I was transported into the fascinating natural world — this time of crystals and minerals.
My profession enabled me to visit many countries whose natural beauty astounded me. I could see the perfect blue sky of Africa in an aquamarine or the flash of fire in an opal or diamond. The cool green algae in a vast volcanic lake echoed in an emerald and a summer’s night sky in a sapphire.
Most of my adult life I spent in Sussex. We were blessed to be near to the Ashdown Forest and my children grew up making camps and using the forest as their extended playground.
Later, I moved to Fairwarp, a village nestled in the middle of the Forest, and it was whilst living there I was inspired to create pastel artworks to capture the beauty around me.
The high weald, with its glittering sandy-topped ridges cloaked with purple heather, was alive with the hum of bees. And as the summer evenings drew in, wild sunsets bathed the open skies as swirling mists hung in the valleys, muting the sounds of trickling streams and the bark of deer.
So began my journey of creating paintings that are intended as visual portals to transport the onlooker into a vanishing fragile world.
